Make Every 3 Footer with the Yardstick Drill

Putting S.O.S. Fundamentals
Solid - hit the putt solid
Online - start the putt on the target line
Speed - hit the putt the correct speed

Start the ball on line, and 3 footers are cake!

Tour players put their focus on consistently starting the ball on the intended line.

Try this practice routine: lay a yardstick on the green (or your carpet ... home or office) :)

Put the ball on the end (hopefully there is a hole for the ball to rest in). Learn to roll the ball off the end of the yardstick.

I like the visualization of the yardstick. It gives a great picture of the line.

Hints:

  • Don't get discouraged - this is not an easy drill
  • Try to find a yardstick that isn't warped :)
  • Don't be surprised when you hit the ball too hard - the yardstick is 20 on the stimp meter!
